A few miles southeast from Ely takes you to Cave Lake State Park, an interesting mountain lake that is situated on the flanks of Cleve Creek Baldy peak to the south-southwest of South Schell Peak. To get there take US Highway 93 to Ely, south of Ely head up Nevada Highway 486 to Cave Lake.
The State Park offers year round recreational opportunities. Cake lake is stocked with rainbow trout and is well known to contain trophy sized German brown trout.
Summer Activities: swimming, hiking, camping and the Annual Bathtub Races.
Winter Activities: ice fishing, skating, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, as well as the White Pine County Fire and Ice Show.
